Recycling Program
The City has two drop-off recycling centers. These centers have recycling containers for residents to deposit recyclables. The drop-off center at the City Public Works yard is open from 7.30 a.m. until 5 p.m. ET, Monday through Friday. The drop-off center at the STAC House is accessible 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Materials Accepted
Please place the correct material in the correct container.
- Mixed Containers: aluminum cans and Grade 1&2 plastic bottles & jugs
- Mixed Paper: Newspaper, magazines, catalogs, white & colored paper, phone books, paperboard and junk mail including all envelopes
- Flattened Cardboard
Unacceptable Materials
- Styrofoam and Packing Peanuts
- Plastic Bags Plastic grocery bags are collected at most neighborhood grocery stores
- Pots and Pans
- Pizza boxes: Pizza boxes are typically contaminated by oils and food leftover from the pizza and cannot be cleaned from the cardboard
- Non-accepted plastic containers: Plastic containers are made with different types of plastic and are formed differently. This causes these containers to melt at a different temperature. The City of Port St Joe's Recycling Program in coordination with Waste Pro will work to keep you informed about what is and is not recyclable.
Recycling
The City of Port St. Joe understands the tremendous impact made in our environment when every resident joins in the effort to reduce, reuse, and recycle. However, determining what items can be recycled is sometimes confusing. The city hopes the list below will help in eliminating that confusion.
The recycle drop off locations will accept the following items:
- Aluminum cans
- Paperboard boxes
- Cardboard boxes (must be flattened and cut to fit into bin)
- Newspapers and inserts
- Phone books
- Magazines
- Catalogs
- Brown paper grocery bags
Note: Do NOT place plastic foam such as Styrofoam in bins
Preparing your recyclables
Before placing recyclables in bins:
- Empty and rinse containers, pie plates and aluminum foil; otherwise, these items will become breeding grounds for bacteria and cannot be recycled after pick-up
- Remove and discard caps and straws (these are not recyclable)
- No plastic bags, bulbs, or ceramics
